NOC Monitoring Pricing: Models, Typical Costs and What You Should Pay (2026)

NOC monitoring pricing is opaque because most providers quote per estate and publish nothing. This page explains how NOC services are actually priced, what a realistic budget looks like at different sizes, what pushes a quote up or down, and how the numbers compare with staffing a Network Operations Centre yourself. It is written from our own quoting for NOC monitoring services and from the pricing we see when clients bring competing proposals.

The four pricing models

Per monitored node. The most common model. Every server, VM, cloud instance, network device or Kubernetes node counts as a node, priced per month, usually with volume bands (1 to 50, 51 to 200, 201 to 500, 500 and up). Simple to forecast, scales with the estate, and the model we use.

Per device class. Different rates for servers, network devices, cloud services and applications, reflecting the effort each takes. More accurate for network-heavy estates (a switch is cheaper to watch than a database server) and more complicated to compare across vendors.

Tiered coverage. The same estate priced at three levels: business hours (say 8am to 6pm local, five days), extended hours (16 hours, six days) and 24/7. The jump from extended to 24/7 is the largest, because it is the difference between a rota and a follow-the-sun team. Most providers, us included, combine tiered coverage with a per-node rate.

Flat monthly retainer. A fixed fee for an agreed scope, common for small estates under a minimum commitment, and for MSP white-label arrangements where the MSP resells under its own brand. Predictable, but you pay the minimum even in a quiet month.

Two things are usually priced separately from the base model: platform hosting (the Zabbix, Prometheus or Datadog infrastructure, either included on the provider's platform or deployed in your cloud at cost) and remediation (whether the NOC only alerts and escalates, or also fixes: restarts services, clears disks, fails over, applies a runbook). Monitoring-only is cheaper; monitoring-plus-remediation is what most buyers actually want.

Typical NOC monitoring costs

The ranges below are for managed NOC services with 24/7 coverage, alerting, escalation and first-line remediation, per monitored node per month, based on quotes we see across our markets. Business-hours-only coverage runs roughly 40 to 60 percent of these figures. Currency conversions are approximate.

Offshore-delivered NOC services with onshore account management, which is our model from Mohali, usually sit in the lower half of each band. Onshore-only providers in the UK, US and Australia sit in the upper half or above it, and the difference is labour cost, not tooling.

Indian market pricing for domestic clients is lower again, typically ₹800 to ₹2,500 per node per month for 24/7 cover, with minimum commitments from ₹40,000 per month.

What drives the price up or down

  • Coverage hours. 24/7 versus business hours is the single largest factor. A genuine 24/7 rota needs at least five engineers; that cost is spread across every client.
  • Remediation scope. Alert-and-escalate is cheaper than alert-and-fix. Fix scope with written runbooks, change windows and access management costs more and saves you the 3am call.
  • Response SLAs. A 15-minute acknowledgement on P1 is standard. Five-minute acknowledgement or guaranteed time-to-resolution is a premium tier.
  • Node mix. Network devices and static servers are cheap to watch. Kubernetes clusters, auto-scaling groups and application-level synthetic checks take more setup and tuning.
  • Platform. Zabbix or Prometheus hosted by the provider is usually included. If the NOC has to operate your Datadog, Splunk or New Relic, expect the subscription to sit on your bill plus an operating fee.
  • Compliance evidence. Audit logs, SLA reports and retention for ISO 27001, SOC 2 or PCI DSS scope add reporting effort; some providers charge for it, some include it.
  • Onboarding. A one-off fee for discovery, agent rollout, template tuning and runbook writing is normal, usually equal to one to two months of service. Providers who waive it recover it elsewhere.
  • Contract term. Twelve-month commitments attract 10 to 20 percent discounts. Monthly rolling costs more per month and is worth it until the service has proved itself.

Managed NOC versus in-house NOC: the real comparison

A 24/7 in-house NOC needs at least five full-time engineers to cover three shifts, weekends, leave and sickness, plus a lead, plus tooling, plus management time. Fully loaded costs in 2026:

Against that, a 200-node estate on a managed NOC at $15 to $40 per node is $36,000 to $96,000 a year with 24/7 cover and a deeper bench than five people can provide. The crossover where in-house becomes cheaper is typically somewhere above 1,500 to 2,500 nodes, or where regulatory requirements forbid outsourcing, or where the NOC function is a product you sell.

The hybrid model many mid-size teams land on: your engineers own the day shift and the estate, a managed NOC covers nights, weekends and overflow, and both work the same ticket queue. That is priced as extended or out-of-hours coverage and usually costs 50 to 70 percent of full 24/7.

Questions to ask before you sign

  1. Is the price per node, per device class, or flat, and what counts as a node? Ask specifically about containers, Kubernetes nodes, auto-scaled instances and synthetic checks.
  2. What is included in remediation, and what triggers a change request or an out-of-scope charge?
  3. What are the acknowledgement and resolution SLAs by severity, and what are the credits if they are missed?
  4. Who owns the monitoring platform and configuration if we leave? Ask for templates and runbooks to be delivered to your repository.
  5. Is onboarding charged, what does it cover, and how long does it take?
  6. Where are the engineers, what hours do they cover from where, and what is the escalation path to a senior engineer?
  7. What does the monthly report contain, and can we see a redacted sample?
  8. What happens to alerts during your platform maintenance?

Frequently asked questions

How much does NOC monitoring cost per month? For a small estate of 10 to 50 nodes, typically $500 to $2,500 per month for 24/7 managed monitoring. For 200 nodes, $3,000 to $8,000. Larger estates are priced per node on a declining scale.

What is the difference between NOC pricing and SOC pricing? A NOC watches availability and performance; a SOC watches security events and typically costs more per node because it includes SIEM licensing, threat intelligence and analyst time. Providers who run both, as we do, often bundle them at a combined rate.

Is a managed NOC cheaper than hiring? Below roughly 1,500 nodes, almost always. A genuine 24/7 in-house NOC costs upward of £300,000 or $475,000 a year in staff alone, before tooling.

Are there hidden costs in NOC contracts? The usual ones are onboarding fees, out-of-scope remediation charges, platform licensing when the NOC operates a commercial tool you own, and minimum commitments that apply even if you shrink the estate. Ask about all four before signing.
